Why do we do the CrossFit Open?
It’s about bringing the awesome community of members (You!) together to celebrate your fitness, have some fun and almost definitely have a few beverages (Non-Alcoholic beverages too!).
Each Saturday for three weeks we’ll run heats of the workout; Which gets announced worldwide the day before; Where you’ll have a judge to help count your reps, and a whole room of other members shouting for you to “go faster” and “keep going”.
It’s an opportunity for the 6:30pm attendees, to meet the mythic creatures that exercise at 6am.
It’s an opportunity to tell one of your fellow members that they did a great job, and a chance for you to be proud of what you’ve achieved.
There will undoubtedly be some firsts. First double unders. First handstands. First pull ups.
Do I need to Sign Up for the CrossFit Open?
It’s completely up to you! If you want to submit your score to the worldwide leaderboard and see how you stack up against others from across the world, then absolutely, you should.
If you’re not fussed about your score, and just want to jump in, do some fitness with people shouting and cheering you on, then there is no requirement to sign up on Games.CrossFit.com
You also don’t need to be signed up on Games.CrossFit.com to take part in the Saturday sessions at BMDSY
How will we be doing the workouts?
Each Saturday from 9am-12pm, we’ll be doing the CrossFit Open workout instead of regular Saturday class programming.
The workouts are released the day prior each week and we will have levelled options – Exactly as we usually do for our regular programming.
If you have signed up because you want to enter your score into the world-wide leaderboard then you can also complete the RX or scaled versions as written by CrossFit.
So how does it work each week?
We’ll be starting at 9am with the briefing of the workout, running through what you’re going to do and the options you have for the workout.
You’ll be assigned heats and times where you’re going to be doing the workout. We do this so that everyone has an opportunity to do the workout and have a judge (To help count your reps and cheer you on)
You’ll go through a group warm up, then have time to get prepped for your turn.
When its your turn you’ll be assigned a judge who’s going to help you and count your reps (“Can’t I have this all the time” – I know right, especially for double unders!)
You’ll do the workout then hang around to judge one of the later heats and cheer someone else on.
Should I enter the CrossFit Open?
It is completely up to you. It’s definitely not compulsory to sign up on the Crossfit Open website to be able to take part.
It’s not about competition, it’s about showing up, challenging yourself, having fun and being part of our community (And some beverages afterwards).
For us, the Open is about bringing our community together to celebrate fitness, have a good time and enjoy some food and drinks afterwards.
